Description:
This replica of both sides of a Greek tetradrachm coin depicts both the owl of Athena and the head of Athena. The owl of Athena coin was made in Athens during a period of approximately 478 BC until about 393 BC. The original would have been made with silver that was melted and cut into disk before being placed into a mould in order to engrave the images. The AOE inscribed on the owl side is a short form of AOENAION. AOENAION is the Greek spelling of Athineon showing that the coin is from Athens.
