Title: Ancient greek silver coins (The wine cup stater of Naxos and the turtle stater of Aegina)
Dimensions (cm): .6x2.5x2.5
Artist: Hayley Bishop
Editor: Daniel Hartwell
Region: Europe
Description:
From the 5th century B.C. Ancient Greek city-states had been issuing coins made of various precious metals, and in many sizes, which were used in trade and to pay for services. The replica coins were made using air drying. Once dry, a small ball of clay was pressed into the cast to be moulded to the correct shape, and left to set. The moulded coins were then painted a light silver all over, with a darker metallic silver used for detail.
