Title: Black scarab (white inscriptions)
Dimensions (cm): 11.5x8x2.9
Artist: Jessica Tubman
Editor: Meg Haas
Region: Middle-East
Description:
Egyptians saw the scarab beetle as a sign of rebirth and that the scarab beetles symbolized the God Khepri who pushed the sun disc through the sky, which they thought was like the beetle pushing it’s ball. To create the artifact the artist used air drying clay. To make the heart scarab shape they just used their hands and added dashes of water to make it easier to mold. After leaving it to dry for 24 hours they then painted the scarab black with acrylic paint.
