Title: Clay moai statue
Dimensions (cm): 12.3x6.8x4.5
Artist: Michaelah Field
Editor: Carmen Anderson
Region: Oceania & Asia
Description:
There are roughly 800-900 statues found on Easter Island. They are carved from volcanic rock and their meaning is still a mystery. It has been speculated that they were made in honour of deceased chiefs and are roughly dated to the year 1633AD. This replica was handcrafted. The shapes were moulded into a block of self-hardening clay, dried and painted with various acrylic paints.
